Windrush 2024 on Kemet FM with Dr Juanita Cox, Rev. Clive Foster MBE, and George Grignon

In celebration of Windrush Memorial Day on the 22nd June, the TalkBack show is dedicated to remembering and honouring the generation upon whose shoulders we stand - the Windrush generation.

The show contributors are three guests who are committed to memorialising and archiving the stories of the Windrush generation as well as campaigning for restorative justice.

Dr Juanita Cox

Dr Juanita Cox is a Research Fellow on the AHRC-funded project "The Windrush Scandal in a Transnational and Commonwealth Context". Dr Cox gained her PhD in the Dept of African Studies and Anthropology University of Birmingham in 2013 and is the winner of the prestigious RE Bradbury Memorial Prize. Her particular expertise lies in post-colonial literature and particularly in 20th-century Anglophone-Caribbean literature as well as oral history interviewing. She is an editor and writer and has given prestigious key notes lectures. Juanita is also a trustee on the board of the Oral History Society. In line with her commitment to social development in Guyana, she is also a trustee for the Robinson Trust. The fund enables applicants of Arawak/Lokono and Carib descent in Dominica and Guyana to pursue further education and/or community projects.

Rev. Clive Foster MBE

Clive Foster MBE brings over 20 years of leadership and organising experience across multiple sectors - community, public and business. His passion is around social justice causes such as racial inequality and he is the founder of the Nottingham Windrush Support Forum. His work in these areas has resulted in him being awarded the Upstanding Organisation Award by No2Hate and the Outstanding Community Volunteer Award by Nottingham Black Achievers. His pioneering and campaigning work in relation to the Windrush Scandal resulted in the appointment of an MBE in 2022. He holds a diploma in Theology and a Bachelors degree in applied chemistry. He is a reverend and senior minister of the Pilgrim Church. He is, in addition, the Multi-Faith manager and Executive Dean for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at Nottingham Trent University.

George Grignon

is a first generation British born descendant of the Windrush generation. Born and raised in Derby to Jamaican parents, he was inspired by the fortitude and tenacity of the Windrush generation which was the catalyst for a number of entrepreneurial endeavours. In addition to being an entrepreneur, George is a musician and organises a number of events with his group SoulDeep. He is currently archiving documentaries of the stories of members of the Windrush generation and organising events and plaques in their honour.

We truly stand on the shoulders and giants and we give our profound and deepest thanks and gratitude to the Windrush generation.

The show is hosted by Zuri Djan and produced by Jeremy Prince.
