What is the Nottingham Windrush Celebrations?

This is an annual event held in Nottingham where we honour and celebrate the significant contribution made by what is known as the Windrush generation who were invited to the UK, mainly from the Caribbean, from 1948-1971.

When is it taking place?

In 2024 our event will take place from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd June. Although we have a pre-launch event at NTU on Thursday 23rd May. 

Who is this event for?

This event is open to all members of the public 

Why is this event happening?

National Windrush Day is an officially recognised day every year on June 22nd. We strive to acknowledge the enduring legacy and resilience of the Caribbean community in Nottingham and beyond.

Are all events free?

The civic reception/service is free by way of invitation. The Windrush Boat Cruise is also free as is the Unity Gospel service.

Where is the civic reception?

The Civic reception is on Friday 21st June at The Council House, Market Square, Nottingham.

How do I get invited to the civic reception?

How do I get a boarding pass to go on the boat cruise?

Where is the exhibition taking place?

At the Nottingham City Council Central Library 1 Carrington St., Nottingham NG1 7FH

Will any of the events be live-streamed ?

Yes, it is likely that both the Civic Service and Unity Gospel Service will be Live streamed on YouTube. Links will be provided nearer to the time. 

Where is the Unity Gospel Service taking place?

This event is being hosted at The Binks Yard venue, 1 The Great Northern Close, The Island Quarter, NG2 3JL (near the the BBC centre, Nottingham).

What time does the Unity Gospel service start and finish?

Unity Gospel service starts from 2.30pm with the main service ending around 6.00 pm although the venue will still be open until 10pm with things happening around that.

Nottingham Windrush Support Forum. A volunteer team based at The Pilgrim Church, Nottingham.
